Ever wish you could shorten or spruce up the web addresses for your pages and posts? Good news – with a little tweaking in your dashboard, you can revamp those URLs to be simpler for visitors to remember or type.
Permalinks are those web addresses – things like ‘yourblogname.com/this-is-a-page’ or ‘yourblogname.com/2023/01/15/new-blog-post’. The last bit is called the ‘slug’. WordPress auto-makes those from your titles by default.
You can tweak permalinks right in your dashboard under ‘Pages’ or ‘Posts’. Just click the link by the existing address to edit the slug part. Be sure not to use repeat slugs though – WordPress will append numbers to keep em all unique.
You can also adjust category and tag pages’ slugs alike. And for bonus points, change how the full permalink structure looks site-wide under ‘Settings’ if you got one of those fancy paid plans!
Sometimes those permalinks act glitchy – no worries, just reset them in ‘Settings’ and things should clear up. Overall, tweaking permalinks is an easy way to spiffy up those web addresses without much hassle. Just remember – don’t use the same slug twice!
